TO THE ONE WHO LOVED ME FIRST

There are a plethora of reasons why I love my Mom and Dad. As Christ said about His thoughts toward us - "to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand" (Psalm 139:17-18) - so is my list of loves about Mom and Dad. Today, however, I have a particular thanksgiving in mind, especially with Mother's Day and Father's Day upon us.

I wish to thank Mom and Dad for all the money they spent on me and still do. Specifically, I am referring to the years I had no job and could not repay you a dime. I reflect back at all the clothes, food, sporting events I was involved with that needed fees and uniforms, prom, college, and gas for the car. I even remember, with no great difficulty, how ya'll would pay for gifts with your money so that I could participate in major holidays/events like Christmas and birthdays or just so I could participate in life. You must have invested a fortune in me, not to mention times two (x2) because of a brother.

The occasional gift or monetary help back to the both of you pales in comparison to the gratitude my heart wants to express. There are so many things that you did for me with your money that I do not have the right degree of - Thank You - to do it justice. Things like doctor trips, schooling and it's needs, and the gas, food, clothing put into traveling from Raleigh to Fayetteville to attend church at F.C.C. All of it really, I thank you for, but these in particular come to mind. So, for the time being I'll say, "Thank you! Thank you, Mom and Dad for all your monetary support over the years." Going forward I plan to keep showing you how much I love you and thank you for it too.

Your decision to invest in the lives of your children reminds me of someone else who did the same thing. So, that I could participate in abundant life and eternal life, my Heavenly Father paid with His Son's life. An exchange was made - He took the nails, that I deserved, so that I would not only know "the truth, the life, the way", but live with Christ, love personified, forever. The thing about Father God is that He gave His everything - His Son, Jesus Christ - and yet He still finds ways to keep loving me every day. He truly is inexhaustible. I look forward to saying, "Thank you!" and showing my gratitude and love for all eternity To The One Who Loved Me First.
