MY HERO, MY FRIEND!

We can talk about men and women with superpowers all day long until we are blue in the face, but none of their powers will ever be able to get at the root of humanity's problem like one hero has already accomplished.

It is amazing what we place value on in this world. Jesus stressed the importance of the eternal. There is an eternal God which has bestowed upon us an eternal decision with an eternal consequence that will place us in either one of two eternal destinations - Paradise or Hell. It is an Ultimate decision that calls for an Ultimate Hero. Matthew 10:28 begins the description of the Ultimate Hero wonderfully with Christ's own words about Himself.
  • "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell."
Two things need to be addressed immediately - (1) there is a hell and (2) Christ has been entrusted with the Judgment of who is sent there. According to Matthew 25:41, the place of judgment was meant for the devil and his angels only. However, because all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God we have been given a Redeemer through Christ Jesus (Romans 3:23-24) to avoid this eternal destination. Because of Christ's obedience, even to death on a cross, John 5:22 speaks to point number two - the entrusted Judgement.
  • Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son,
Through John we read one sentence that answers the question - Why did Christ visit humanity (the first time)? 1 John 3:8 says - "The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work." And He did, proving another criteria of the Ultimate Hero that -  "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." (John 15:13)

Wow! The Ultimate Hero calling us friends and laying His life down for us! In John 15:15 Jesus elaborates on this shift - "I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you."

If you are needing a Hero in your life (nod to Bonnie Tyler - "I Need A Hero"), I invite you to consider Jesus Christ. He has paid the natural and super-natural price for you to believe in Him as your Hero. I know with all the world is going through I am so thankful and grateful for My Hero, My Friend - Christ Jesus, The King.
