LIVING, MOVING AND BEING...IN GOD

Agendas - they can be peace killers. They are meant to bring order, focus, and importance to our lives and daily plans. However, while agendas may provide structure and schedule to an otherwise chaotic day/life, to-do lists can also hinder us from living, moving and being in God (Acts 17:28).

As Christians, placing God first on a list or first in our day is a good start, but is not where we should leave Him, it is not the whole picture. I believe the proper perspective to grasp and attain is God in, with and around you everywhere you turn. Paul Burleson, another blogger I follow, likened this idea to a wheel and spoke analogy. He says,
  • "...think of God as the hub. Remember that old bicycle you use to ride? The wheels had a hub. From it went the various spokes that enabled those wheels to create what was necessary for that bike to function according to it's purpose or intention. That is an inadequate yet much better way of thinking about our relationship to God than is the list. It moves us from what we DO in life to who He IS as our LIFE. No illustration is adequate. But moving from "doing" to "being" when talking about the Christian life IS fundamental to the scriptures."
This reminds me of two verses of Scripture. First, Philippians 4:13 - "I can do everything through him who gives me strength." The second Scripture speaks to the wheel imagery Mr. Burleson used - Ezekiel 1:16 - "This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like chrysolite, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel."

Perhaps we might look at our life everyday as a traveling gyroscope. God would be ever-present in the center, keeping us balanced and there for sharing all of our life, not just the counseling through challenges. An athlete's center of gravity or center of balance is where he/she is going to get their next movement (left, right, forward, backward, diagonal, etc...). If the Christian keeps Christ at the center of their life, in all things and not just at the top of all lists, then all day, every day challenges will be met with the immediate counsel of The Lord through His Holy Spirit.

Mr. Burleson continues by saying, "God isn't something you DO period. He IS your life. Not a THING in your life,..." and in my mind's eye, as pictured above, Acts 17:28 says just that - "For in him we live and move and have our being." Are you - Living, Moving And Being...In God?
